The heart of the home

Mulberry House is situated in Newbury, Berkshire. The clients were keen for the space to function as a social hub, adaptable for entertaining larger groups in addition to everyday family living. It was vital the kitchen married the functionality and practically of young family life, with the warmth of the adjacent snug and dining areas.

Stylistically we studied the property's architecture and concluded on a traditional shaker kitchen, with beaded in-frame detailing best suited the space.

We worked with the finest bespoke hand-crafted British cabinetry, complete with solid antique brass handles to create a timeless look.

The bespoke pantry consists of floor to ceiling open shelving, finished in a walnut veneer. Recessed strip lighting was installed behind the frames front edge and angled to cast a equal radiance to the shelves. We incorporated a worktop slab along the back wall that extends into the open shelving, creating nooks to store a coffee machine and toaster. Allowing quick access to everyday appliances with the ease of tucking them away after use. This was vitally important to prevent over cluttering the kitchen worktops due to the open-plan nature of the space.

The Interior Designers, 'The Hive' had a strong vision for the overall scheme of the property, with a view to create a rich colour palette that work harmoniously throughout. In order to tie the scheme together the Aga tops were finished in antique brass to match the Armac Martin Carlton handles.

Functionality and practicality were at the forefront of our design for this growing family. The Infinity Calacatta Hermitage Satin porcelain worktops offers the beauty of a natural marble, with the benefits of enhanced durability and ease of maintenance.

Alongside their kitchen we were commissioned to design and install the cabinetry for their
utility room, whiskey room, snug, drawing room, study and dressing room.

The 'snug' is located to the right of the kitchen and primarily used as a play area for the children that can easily be overlooked while cooking in the kitchen. Finished in Farrow & Ball Sulking Room Pink to create a cozy, inviting atmosphere.

With a growing young family it was important the utility room had plenty of storage, worktop space for folding clothes and a pull-out shelf for resting a basket while loading and unloading. Also featuring a dog shower and nook for the dog crate.

The brief for the whiskey room cabinetry was dark and elegant.

Deep green painted cabinetry, dramatic Caesarstone Vanilla Noir worktops, decadent Armac Martin Carlton Chocolate Bronze handles and bronze mesh fronts complete this sophisticated social hub.

The drawing room cabinetry was finished in Little Greene Windmill Lane and featured tongue & groove paneling around the fireplace and in the back of the shelving units. We ran the coving around the front of the cabinetry, as well as using the same skirting throughout the room to create a built-in effect.

In the study we were challenged with hiding a gun safe, we used tongue & groove paneling to conceal the door and drawer. Finished with Corston Barlow furniture knobs in bronze, with our custom 'Snug Bronze' butt hinges.

Finally the master dressing room, a bright and fresh space with floor to ceiling storage and dressing table nook with showstopping polished Neolith Calacatta porcelain top.
